Electronic Measuring System for Process Control on Grinders and Machine Tools

Today we talk about the P7ME (hardware and software) and its modularity that allows users to set up the appropriate model for the measuring requirements on any type of machine tool.

MIDA TT probes have excellent spatial isotropy performance combined with a high level of repeatability. This allows accurate 3D measurements of complex surfaces to be optained, typicaly of machining of dies, shells, turbines, etc. on milling machines.

The TT25h probe is a high trigger pressure version of the TT25, allowing the use of complex or heavy-duty styli, particularly when there are high levels of vibration in the machine.

The TT60 probe, with its long overtravel, is suitable for use on large milling and boring machines. The operating range of this probe provides solutions in applications where long styli are required.

How a Touch Probe for Machine Tools works

The system utilizes the machine to move the probe along a programmed path. Once the stylus makes contact with the part/tool a signal is generated and is transmitted to the machine’s CNC. This is done by means of a transmission system (wireless or hardwired). The CNC is then able to store the relevant axes positions and elaborate the part geometry by means of dedicated probing software.

Interface Unit for Hard-Wired Connection of Mida Probes

The E32R interface converts the signal generated by the touch probe into a form which can be used by the machine tool CNC.On the front panel of the unit are located the terminal boxes for the I/O connections and some LED’s to indicate the following:

Green LED: lit to indicate “power ON”
Green LED: indicates the status of the touch probe:
- lit when the probe stylus is deflected
- unlit when the probe is seated.

M18 Typical Diameter Measurement Plug

Marposs M18 Gauge Plug for Transfer Lines is:

designed to perform a two coaxial internal diameter measurement check;
utilized after turning and grinding operations on transfer machines, special purpose machines and post-process gauging stations;
typical for the measurement of valve seat and valve guide diameters of the cylinder head.

The diameter measurement plug guarantees reliability and process productivity improvement by automation of the process itself inclusive of the part measurement and closed loop feedback to the machine tool (compensation of tool wear, improvement of overall machining time and scrap reduction).

Measurements are performed by use of four Marposs measuring cells, each provided with one LVDT transducer.

The diameter measurement plug uses a body with fixed nosepiece. In order to protect it from potential collision due to part mis-positioning or part overstock conditions, the plug requires mounting to rigid recoiling devices.

The diameter measurement plug is provided with cleaning air nozzles in the diameter no.1 section (the air inlet is always at 180¬? with respect to the junction box).

It can be connected to E9066N electronic unit for complex applications or applications for which statistical analysis is required and to E3 family electronic units for simple applications.

Side-by-side assembled on the machine, the gauge plugs can measure bores having minimum center distance of 47 mm.

Non-Contact Tool Setting System for CNC Machining Centres and Milling Machines

The Mida Laser systems use a laser diode and a high precision photodiode to perform static or moving controls and tool measurements. The signals generated by the system when the tool under test breaks the laser beam are used by the machine CNC to perform the required measurements.

Mida Laser systems are available in focused or collimated versions. The focused version is essential for checking the cutting profile and measuring the length of tools with spherical heads, engravers or diameters less than 1 mm.

Mida Laser systems are available in two models:

* Mida Laser 75

* Mida Laser 105

The compact Mida Laser 75, for use with smaller machines, is available in three versions:

* Bracket with emitter and receiver in a single structure, available in different lengths

* Pico Laser, the ultra compact bracket mounted version for smaller machines

Mida E86N spindle probing system, with radio-frequency transmission, is designed for presetting and workpiece measurement on milling machines and small and large machining centers. Thanks to the 64 available transmission channels, a very high number of machines equipped with radio frequency spindle probes, can be located even in a small machining area.

The Transmitter, available also in a compact version (E86N-P) suitable for all the applications on small-size machines and turning centers, can be activated and deactivated through a radio signal, allowing to extend the transmitter battery life and to be more user friendly.

The Interface, through two push buttons and one display, allows the programming of the whole system and the visualisation of all settings, of the transmission channel and of the charge level of the transmitter battery.

The receiving Antenna is particularly sturdy and suitable for standing also the harshest machine conditions. A sealed connector fitted between its base and the cable for connection to the interface facilitates its installation and any possible maintenance or replacement intervention.

These features make it very simple to perform all the installation, programming and maintenance operations on the E86N system. Thanks to the gauging software packages Marposs has made available for the most common CNCs on the market, the E83WA system can also be installed on machines already in operation at end user premises.

The new technologies used are based on the use of miniaturized components and since the LEDs have a large operating range, transmission is guaranteed in all types of machines.
