How a Touch Probe for Machine Tools works

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The system utilizes the machine to move the probe along a programmed path. Once the stylus makes contact with the part/tool a signal is generated and is transmitted to the machine’s CNC. This is done by means of a transmission system (wireless or hardwired). The CNC is then able to store the relevant axes positions and elaborate the part geometry by means of dedicated probing software.

A typical probing application lay-out is sketched here below:

     Touch Probes for Machine ToolsA touch probe system enables machine tools to perform geometrical measurements inside its cutting area. The probe, a high precision switch, is the heart of the system and when it is integrated into the machine manufacturing process, it can determine workpiece and/or tool sizes and identify part locations. This system can enhance part quality, improve productivity and reduce operators set-up time.

    Probing System For CNC Machines Without Automatic Tool Change

    Probing System For CNC Machines Without Automatic Tool Change E88 Touch System is the MARPOSS solution for part probing on CNC machines with no ATC.

    It can be used for:

    * workpiece zero point determination
    * workpiece coordinate alignment
    * workpiece dimensional measurements

    The system can be directly connected to any machine tool CNC thanks to the interface unit integrated into the probe holder.

    A LED showing the probe status facilitates the probing operation by the operator. The coiled connecting cable allows a wide range of movement of the system in the machining area.

    The modularity of E88 system permits the use of any Mida part inspection probe and guarantees versatility of application.

    Radio Frequency Spindle Probing System for Machine Tools

    Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

    Radio Frequency Spindle Probing System for Machine ToolsMida E86N spindle probing system, with radio-frequency transmission, is designed for presetting and workpiece measurement on milling machines and small and large machining centers. Thanks to the 64 available transmission channels, a very high number of machines equipped with radio frequency spindle probes, can be located even in a small machining area.

    The Transmitter, available also in a compact version (E86N-P) suitable for all the applications on small-size machines and turning centers, can be activated and deactivated through a radio signal, allowing to extend the transmitter battery life and to be more user friendly.

    The Interface, through two push buttons and one display, allows the programming of the whole system and the visualisation of all settings, of the transmission channel and of the charge level of the transmitter battery.

    The receiving Antenna is particularly sturdy and suitable for standing also the harshest machine conditions. A sealed connector fitted between its base and the cable for connection to the interface facilitates its installation and any possible maintenance or replacement intervention.

    These features make it very simple to perform all the installation, programming and maintenance operations on the E86N system. Moreover, thanks to the use of innovative technical solutions, the measurement accuracy and repeatability levels of 0.5 micron are guaranteed and other features such as insensitivity to vibrations and sharp accelerations in machine, and protection from chips and jets of coolant were improved.
